PS3 Unreal Tournament III goes gold

The ‘will it won’t it’ saga seems to be finally put to bed with pre-Christmas confirmation of PlayStation shooter

With the PC version of Epic shooter Unreal Tournament III hitting European stores tomorrow, the ongoing uncertainty concerning when the PS3 version will make it out before Christmas appears to have been answered with the news that the game has gone gold.

However, whilst Sony America has approved the game for official manufacturing, it seems that localisation issues will prevent the title hitting European retail until some time in the New Year.

“Midway has started talking to retailers to figure out exact timing and they will have a formal announcement early next week when everyone is back from the Thanksgiving holiday,” Epic boss Mark Rein stated on the UTIII forums.

“My guess is that Midway will start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10th and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th but more likely toward the middle of that week.”

With the game carrying a limited exclusivity period on PS3, the arrival of the upcoming Xbox 360 version remains up in the air.

PS3 games are region free aren't they? I know some people have issues with running imports on an SDTV.

But I guess it might be worth just importing the game, but dont know if any issues might come about with the online side of things like online play and or content.

Often cheaper to import games too.

An example is the simpsons game which you can get for as low as £26 compared to £50 in uk shops.
