What is Halo 3 anyway? Is that a new snack?

Nintendo are currently the most profitable company ever in the history of video gaming. Galaxy will just add to this. As will Fit.
The DS and the Wii have both transcended the normal console marketplace to become part of the cultural mainstream.
It is a phenomenon that nobody predicted.

Actually, it's not. If you go to Game Rankings it's second. Zelda is still on top (as of 1pm on Thursday). With reviews still being added, I wouldn't be surprised if they jiggle a little more.

Do get me wrong HALO was a good shooter....."good" not great. Apart from dual wielding what else did HALO bring to the table?

How the hell can you call Mario fad when HALO just a future sci fi shooter with aliens.....oh hang on...how many of them are on the market?

I'm really having trouble seeing how mario galaxy can possibly be the greatest game of all time. It's so... unoriginal!
Another aimless 3D platformer, isn't this just what Mario is everytime. I've seen the adverts and even my girlfriend was say "Jeez, what a rubbish, childish game"
The only way this game could reach the top is because of Nintendo fanboys, of which there are thousands, doing anything to see their console get to the top.

I know this has nothing to do with the subject matter but Halo is one of the greatest FPS ever made. FACT. I wouldnt say the same for part 2 and 3 (yes, I do think they're overrated piles of s**t) but the first one is almost a perfect example of the genre.
I havent played Mario Galaxy properly yet but from what I have played, it was pretty good! Not amazing, and certainly not the best game ever made. Maybe the best platform game ever made but certainly not the best game ever made. Have people suddnely forgotten HL2 and RESI 4? Maybe I'll change my mind once I've played it properly but for now, yes, it is 'just the latest Mario game' and has been propelled to the top for obvious reasons.

You've seen the advert!? Then clearly you have more than enough information to judge the game. It must be just as you say. Those evil Nintendo Fanboys have finally taken over all the major Magazines and review sites and forced them to write favorable reviews!

A list of the greatest games which fails to includes the likes of Metal Gear Solid; Final fantasy 7; Goldeneye - games which have been proven to last. Come back to Mario in a couple of years and see if people still think it's such a great game.

Personally I'd like to see games like Lemmings topping that list as it still sells well about 15-20 years after the orginal release. I can't see that happening with Mario galaxy but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

You mean, they couldn't compete in the traditional games market anymore (because they couldn't afford to compete with Sony and MS), so they're bumping themselves out of it, without the need for Sony or MS to do it.

Don't forget that by 'opening' a new market, they risk alienating their existing fans and those with a fleeting interest in their 'traditional' consoles.

So what is their long-term strategy for future consoles?

Continue doing the same thing as with the Revolution? More stick controller nonsense?

Go 'back' to traditional model?

At this rate, if they continue like this in the future, their products in a couple of generation's time will be teddy bears, rather than electronic entertainment devices!

Geez, well, I NEVER thought that would happen!

EDGE have been up Nintendo's back side ever since they started their over-glossed, look-how-serious-we-are-about-gaming mag.

They have had a fleeting interest at MS and slated Sony in almost EVERY single issue and given their games low ratings constantly, with subliminal messages in their overtly long preview and other articles.

I really wouldn't take anything they say seriously. Anyone who pick up their rag and reads it can clearly see that - you'd need to be blind not to...or perhaps a Nin******.

Well it's amazing how a game like Ratchet and Clank can be cool and "hardcore" but people dismiss Mario as childish garbage. Well do we need to see a realistic mario, with buttcrack and all in HD? hell no. Why don't you play this game before you talk about it. Halo has miniscule differences in it's series. Mario 3D is similar each time, but always has a HUGE difference. Water pack or awesome gravity aeffects and whatnot, that completely change the gameplay. Awesome game that deserves best game ever

Sorry but a game that has only been out five minutes cannot possibly be described as the best game ever. It may be the best game out now but no way can it be the best ever.

If, as pointed out in several posts above, the game is still being played 10 years from now then perhaps it can be classed as the best ever. Donkey Kong most certainly has a right to be called Best Ever, but there are so many other games that could also be called Best Ever for other reasons - Lemmings, Sensible Soccer, Sonic the Hedgehog, World of Warcraft, Doom, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, Ultima, Pac Mac, Space Invaders, Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner... All these games plus so many more have lasting appeal and are still played many years after they were made so these have a right to be called Best Ever.

So what if SMG got reviews of 10 out of 10? Reviews mean nothing so often and a game cannot be judged with the greatest tag so soon in its life. It would be like saying Lewis Hamilton is the greatest racing driver ever after one season.

...anyway in spite of those 'expected' comments above, I found Mario Galaxy to be refeshing, FUN, charming to look at and beautiful sounding experience all in one.
So many games of late have been focused on one dominant feature and have been very taxing on the mind, not that this is nessasarily a bad thing, but I feel that this game has arrived at a good time and yes, although it's not rife with originality, the simple and pure flow of the game add the vital ingrediant of nostalgia whilst remaining new and captivating.

I have to admit... this has to be one of the best games I have ever played. It looks absolutely stunning and it keeps you engaged like nothing I have ever played before. It may not be for die-hard gamers... but then again... I don't think the wii was ever intended for the "die-hards" anyway. This appeals to a wide audience and ticks far more boxes than most other games. It is simple and fun. I thought that's what games we're meant to be!
