US: PS3 sales soar by 300 per cent

Some questioned Sony CEO Howard Stringer’s confidence when he spoke about the PS3’s North American breakthrough

earlier this month

– but the latest November sales numbers from the territory prove that the appetite for Sony’s next-gen console has massively increased.

Since November 2nd PS3 sales have climbed by 298 per cent compared to the previous month, with sales over Thanksgiving seeing a 245 per cent increase over the same period last year.

Sony’s positive US fortune comes shortly after confirmation that PS3 has outsold Wii in Japan for the second week in a row.

There’s also been good news for Sony’s handheld console the PSP, which for the week ending November 24th saw sales climb 136 per cent compared to the previous week in North America. And like the PS3, PSP is also enjoying a surge in popularity in Japan.
