Zelnick: Take 2 is in ‘growth mode’

Chairman says that he is not interested in selling the company to a larger publisher

Despite the recent troubles that have seen a management reshuffle and a European ban for its controversial stealth sequel Manhunt 2, chairman Strauss Zelnick has insisted that he has no intention of selling the publisher, and instead expects it to grow going forwards.

"I'm much more interested in growing the business than in selling it, to be clear," Zelnick told news agency Reuters. "I would say for the next five to seven years this is a terrific time to be in the videogame business.

"I imagine we will try to find greater efficiencies but they probably won't be through headcount. I imagine headcount will grow. This is a growth business. We are in growth mode.”

He also added that he still believes that despite the ongoing delays to Take 2’s hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV, the game will exceed even the wildest predictions:

"I believe this release, Grand Theft Auto IV, is going to be vastly better than those expectations - vastly better - and that's hard to do when expectations are so high.”
