Upcoming arrival of downloadable Xbox games doesn’t deter platform holder from boosting its software emulation offering
Some has suspected that in the light of the upcoming Xbox Originals service on Xbox Live, Microsoft’s support of its ongoing backwards compatibility efforts on 360 might wane – but next month’s ‘Fall Update’ will bring with it a renewed roster of compatible Xbox games.
Newly-functioning titles will include FIFA 06, Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance, Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Championship Manager 2006, Colin McRae Rally 2005, Freedom Fighters, Rugby 2006, Starsky & Hutch, Test Drive and The Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age.
Microsoft’s Japanese arm also claims that the update will bring with it another 360 Menu Blade shuffle, with the new Game Library encompassing all the previous entries for Xbox Live Arcade, demos and downloads. Marketplace will be receiving a similar tidy-up, and will be split into four categories – Recommended Content, What’s New, Game Store and Video Store.
There will also be some added social functionality, with the facility for gamers to browse the friends list of friends on their own list.

Another USP enhanced
This distances Microsoft even further from Sony, *****moved backwards compatibility from the latest PS3 to reduce costs.
It will be interesting to see which is the best policy. Personally my money is with Microsoft. Reaping profit from the long tail whilst giving your customers more choice. Looks like a USP.
Microsoft know software
What amazes me is that the Xbox 360 has no hardware that is similar to the old Xbox yet they can emulate original Xbox 1 games to run on the 360 yet Sony cannot do this buy bring out a cheaper PS3 with no BC for PS2 games.
Its a shame though no news for downloadable movies on demand which was supposed to be coming out this year for Europe.
Re: Microsoft know software
They said it was coming this year so I have faith it will be included in the upcoming update as its been long enough since it was out US side.
This is yet another good move as it means us retailers now can sell our back stock of these older titles as the customer base keeps growing smaller for xbox owners
Re: Microsoft know software?
Yes. I too bought a PS3 & 360 and spent in the region of £600 just so I could play last gen games.
