Global Activision boss says industry price drop is ‘needed’; predicts Wii will fall to $129
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has forecast that both Sony and Microsoft will “need” to drop the price of their next gen consoles to $199 (£100) in the next two years to reach mass market consumers.
He added that he believes the Wii, which currently sells for $250 (£125), would drop down to as low as $129 (£65) in that time.
Kotick told Reuters:
"The Wii at its price point is now setting a standard and an expectation, and people say, well, the Wii is less complex technically. I don't think that really matters as much to the consumer
"In the next 24 months they all will need to be at that $199 price point, and you can imagine Nintendo will be down to the $129 price point over the next few years."

That will be £199 in the UK
In this generation there should be more multiple console ownership than before. Just because there are more AAA platform exclusives.
If the platform holders then get into a price war with their consoles it can only increase the effect.
Re: That will be £199 in the UK
Absolutely. If there is a price drop, the UK will continue to feel the sting, there is no way that the 360 or PS3 will come down to the £100 barrier whilst they are still the company's main console, only time we will see that is after the 720 and PS4 are announced and about to hit the market.
I think that this generation already has much greater multiple console ownership, gamefaq's latest poll, though a while ago now, showed that 360/wii was the most popular combination, followed by PS3/wii, then all three, then 360/PS3. I believe this is in part because of the lower price point of the wii, it makes it much more affordable for someone who already owns another console.
