Senator warns of ‘killing-machine’ games

US politician issues public warning about games featuring the ‘torture of women and racial minorities’

One of the most vocal critics of video games in North America, Senator Leland Yee, has issued a stark warning to parents concerning the purchasing of adult-themed games in the run-up to Christmas, Next-Gen reports.

A statement from Yee’s office read: “Unfortunately, some parents don’t realise that in many top selling games, the player actively participates in and is rewarded for violence, including killing police officers, maiming elderly persons, running over pedestrians, and torturing women and racial minorities.

“If there are violence and sexual themes in the title and cover picture, you can assume these themes are also in the game. Avoid the 'first-person shooter' and 'third-person shooter' killing-machine games.”

Books (without any age rating) and film contain far, far worse. Why pick on games?
Also what he said is not true: "many top selling games, the player actively participates in and is rewarded for violence, including killing police officers, mai*****lderly persons, running over pedestrians, and torturing women and racial minorities."

He should have said "the occasional" instead of "many".

Have they forgotten about the torture simulator that is The Sims 2?

You can get a person to be trapped in a room which is one square wide with no provisions, so the Sim will not be able to eat, sleep, or go to the toilet (but still make a mess).

How come this is never brought up in a "Family" game?

Besides, Do they include America's Army in this list? the game which is designed to recruit people into their army?

How can we debate censorship when your own site is censoring perfectly acceptable words?

Why is it everyone jumps on th ant-games band wagon here? I'm honestly confused. The media reports that games are bad because someone once played a game then killed some people.
1) Most teenages play video games, so the fact that these people played video games is not suprising. They all breath oxygen, therefore oxygen makes people murder (which if you think about it, is actually true. No oxygen-no murder)
2) How many people commit murers because of religious influences? Hear voices, unclean etc... Yet the media doesn't start blaming the bible. Only other religious texts.
