But SCEA CEO says the growing exclusive PS3 software library puts the machine in a great position this Christmas
The CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton, has admitted that the PS3 has failed to meet his company’s expectations in the first year of its life, but says that he is extremely confident as the industry heads toward Christmas.
Speaking to MSNBC, Trettong stated: “I don’t think there’s any question that there were missteps, but I don’t think anybody is being honest with you if they say that the first year of any platform goes perfectly according to plan.
“I think the PS3’s first year fell short of what we’d ideally like. But if you put it into perspective, we’re not taking the safe route. We didn’t take the PS2 and add a few bells and whistles to it. What we’re trying to do here is refocus the game industry towards high-definition gaming, a real state-of-the-art, future-proof machine for the next decade.
“The beauty of this business is that it isn’t all about one day, it isn’t all about one title, or one month. I think there’s a tremendous amount of software for the holiday season — 160 games coming out on PS3 alone for this holiday, on top of the 200 games that have already been out there, so there’s more than enough great software for consumers to sink their teeth in for the holidays.
“We’ve got 19 exclusives, and again, I think that’s something that’s a pretty amazing feat in the first year of a platform’s lifecycle. And they’re not just games that are exclusive for the sake of exclusivity, they’re games that are built and differentiated for the PS3 and just couldn’t be done on any other platform.”

Where are these games???
What tosh! When I go into the game shops I see if am lucky 1 or 2 new titles if that most of which are cross platform and usualy cost more than a 360 version.
Where are these exclusives???
Jack Trenton is honest to a degree but overall the PS3 is very boring.
Re: Where are these games???
Perhaps he refers to PS3 exclusives such as Lair? Which quite frankly shouldn't be allowed on any other platform.
I'm sure, given time there will be some great games released for Sony's Blu Ray trojan horse.
Re: Where are these games???
Yeah, drakes fortune and Lair couldnt be done on any other machine because it would have rendered the developers who made them bankrupt.
And whats he banging on about with the statement:
"what we're trying to do here is re-focus the games industry towards high definition ga*****r... sorry but before the 360 came on to the UK market, I dont know anyone who even knew what a HD telly was let alone had one, Microsoft singlehandly kick started the HD revolution with the 360. I'm pretty sure the re-focus started way before the PS3 was launched.......
I'm not just bashing Sony for the hell of it but these kind of statements really wind me up, especially when they're from a company thats had it head up its own **** for so long that its forgotten how to get out.

Nuff said!
Re: Where are these games???
for misteps, read: "arrogant mistakes because we dont actually know what we want to do"
Re: Where are these games???
Yeah, but one thing we do know is that we want to make money with as minimal effort as possible.
Which is why we released the console at £425.00 with no games.........
Re: Where are these games???
....and charge the most for each game, despite the only difference being Blu-Ray (sic) and having lower framerates, when PC versions of the same titles have higher quality graphics, on a dvd, for the cheapest cost.
Poison.
“I don’t know that we were ever considered arrogant by consumers.”
Err, I beg to differ, Mr Tretton. Just read the above, for a start!
The WHOLE PlayStation Nation was saying so, you just didn’t want to read the blogs because you knew you were getting slaughtered in there by fans and in shops by both Microsoft and Nintendo…
…and still are, by the way!
I see this interview as nothing more than propaganda by Sony. It’s poisonous.
