JAPAN: DS sales on the rise

Nintendo’s machines both enjoy hardware sales rises in the Far East whilst competitors dip

The PSP and PS3 may have between them enjoyed a spell of dominance in the Japanese hardware market in recent times, but it seems that Nintendo’s Wii and DS double-team is staging a fight back as both machines enjoy sales rises this week – despite drops elsewhere across the board.

Media Create figures show that for the week ending December 2nd the DS increased its sales from 116,694 the week before to 124,627, whilst the Wii sold 74,764 units, up from 54,362 in the previous week.

The PSP was the third highest selling format, selling 74,626 – narrowly behind the Wii. PS3 sales dropped by a quarter to 37,092. Elsewhere in the listings, PS2 sold 13,703 and Xbox 360 6,632.

So PS3 managed to outsell Wii for two weeks only. Proves it was a blip.
