Heavy demand for popular games console could see ads moved back to early 2008
With reports of expensive bundles and extortionate eBay prices plaguing those desperate to track down the increasingly rare Wii in time for Christmas, platform holder Nintendo has told MCV that it is considering changing some elements of its pre-Christmas marketing strategy.
Marketing Week reports that all of Nintendo’s allocated Wii ad space will be replaced with DS advertisements until the New Year, and that the non-seasonally specific TV spots will be run after Christmas when stock will hopefully be more plentiful.
However, a Nintendo UK spokesperson told MCV that a blanket strategy change of this nature is not currently planned, stating that the company is "potentially looking at moving some advertising on some products into early 2008", and adding that nothing has yet been finalised.

Whats the point?
Nintendo are very successful with the Wii and the DS personally I dont see the need for wasting money on advertising...Perhaps they should spend some money on opening more factories to meet the demand!
Re: Whats the point?
Errrr - perhaps they're successful partially BECAUSE of their advertising?
Re: Whats the point?
unfortuantely thats also pointless because no one can get hold of any DS' either, so one way or the other they will be advertising stuff you cant get ahold of.
Re: Whats the point?
Maybe they should do some PS3 ad's?
Re: Whats the point?
Have to agree, I fail to see how spending extra funding on advertising is going to improve on an already hugely successful system thats clearly at the forefront of every [casual] gamers mind. It certainly won't help with the supply issues of both Wii & DS lite. As already pointed out, Nintendo need to concentrate their efforts in meeting the demand, not wasting money on advertising.
Re: Whats the point?
Some people need to ask the basic question: What does advertising do? Being incredibly popular doesn't mean you don't need to advertise! If they stopped ads, their numbers would drop. It's 1+1 stuff... hardware factories cost billions of dollars, Nintendo currently own zero. They only put together the hardware, they don't "make" it. Worldwide advertising is pocket change in comparison
