Grasshopper’s Suda 51 says that the ‘broadly growing Wii market’ was behind the decision

Following this week’s news that the European version of Grasshopper’s highly anticipated No More Heroes will be censored, as per the Japanese version of the title, the game’s developers have issued a statement claiming that it was their decision – and not publisher Rising Star Games – to release the toned-down version of the title in this territory.

A joint statement from Grasshopper CEO Goichi ‘Suda 51’ Suda and Marvelous Digitial Contents Company president Yashiro Wada reads: “First, let me say how honoured I am that everyone in Europe is expecting No More Heroes.

Eidos

“The sales point of this game is action. Both I and Wada san have concentrated on making the best possible action game for the Nintendo Wii. We have chosen to release in Europe the same version as has shipped in Japan considering the broadly growing Wii market.”

The US version of the title will include all the original in-game gore.

“TYPICAL”

how can they justify releasing an uncensored version in the USA and a censored one here.

If theres one country where any kind of violence in a videogame should not be allowed, its the USA.

Has the world gone mad?

Well shame that, its off my list.
I'll buy Manhunt 2 cause Rockstar tried, but companies that fold this easy and treat us like kids i'm not going to be a part of.
Any how got Killer 7 and that will be the first and last, i Do Not support Censorship and no one that does

I call BS on this its called damage control to take the flak away from Rising Star Games. Also I have lost all respect for SUDA 51.

“Options, why not give them?”

If they're worried about the blood, why not give the option to have it turned on an off, dependant upon the parental control settings in the Wii?

“Fine, no more buy then”
Posted: Dec 13, 11:29pm

Japan has strict regulations, most of Europe doesn't.
What happened Suda, I thought 'punk wasn't dead' and NMH would be "more violent than Manhunt".
Buy trying to get the casuals all you're getting is the loss of your true market, the hardcore.

Will not buy this game now, Killer 7's blood effects were intriguing and gave the title part of its soul. Censor the game and YOU LOSE! No buy from me.

I am very, very disappointed. Ridiculous violece was part of the game's unique style, and most important, soul. And I was really, truly looking forward to this game. Thanks Suda 51, you just ruined your game.

I remember how Suda said that this game was going to be even more gorier than Manhunt 2 and I was so looking forward to it. Now I wont buy it because its the inferior version of the game we are recieving.

5000+ people signed a petition to recieve the same version as the American one. Think twice before you are giving us this "original" censored game Rising Star Games. For your own good.

When I first found out that gore was gone I was very, very dissapointed. Now that I know it was the creator himself i am stunned.

But does it have other content then?

“It's a shame...”
Posted by: JL - Dec 24, 4:10pm

It doesn't matter if it has blood or not, cos it's the gameplay that counts, and it looks ace. BUT it would have been much more simple just to have the option for blood, cos it makes it much more satisfying. Anyway, with the amount of swearing and violence in it already, I wouldn't imagine that the people buying it would mind the blood.

shame really, as i thought it would be a good example of this so called 'broadly growing wii market'. It grows in more ways than one you know, older, younger... etc, i'm 22 and if i want to see some over the top violence i'll be looking elsewhere. it's not just about gore, it's about artistic integrity for me...

Yay for us, we get the game last, fully censored and they expect us to pay nearly double what the US pay!! Who do they think they'll kid into buying this!! Hardcore gamers? Not a chance in hell. Casual gamers? Again no chance.

Saying Europeans cant handle blood but Americans can is just plain racist!! And hiding behind Rising Star's back while fans raged at them was the last straw. Suda51, you sir are a disgrace. Not buying.

I got this game in america .its my favorite thing ever. if the censored one has black blood or whatnot . that would also be really cool . even more stylized I would think . but if its just the coins it will still rule . the game is over the top action . I cant get rid of my ***** !!!
