PSP gets PVR functionality

Japanese gamers get the chance to record TV on the move in upcoming firmware update

SCEJ has stated that the upcoming PSP firmware update that is due out worldwide on December 18th will allow Japanese users who own the PSP TV Tuner to turn their handheld into a portable TV recorder, Eurogamer reports.

Firmware version 3.8 will allow TV tuner owners to select upcoming programming from the Japanese standard 1seg channel guide which the PSP will record automatically, and even go in to sleep mode once it has finished.

Other additions coming as part of the firmware update include an internet radio player.

Nintendo recently stated that it was taken aback by the unexpectedly high demand for its DS TV Tuner, which recently went on sale in Japan. Sony has previously confirmed that PVR functionality is on the way for PS3, too.

Its bad enough that in the UK we only get the PSP in two colours but now this?

I really want Sony to pull their finger out and get some of these great services launched on these s****s but I've never even been able to get my PSP on-line in this country so god knows what would happen if they released this over here too?
