JAPAN: PS3 beats Wii in November

Sony’s machine outsells Wii, though handhelds rule in hardware sales battle

According to data from Enterbrain, the publisher of Japanese games bible Famitsu, after a strong few weeks on the Japanese market, PS3 has outsold its rival Wii in Japan for the month of November, with sales of Sony’s machine hitting 183,217 – 24,000 higher than Nintendo’s product.

The November market was dominated by the handhelds, however, with DS Lite proving the biggest hit with sales of 358,259. PSP came second, selling 266,078. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sold 35,065 machines in the period, slightly behind the PS2 with sales of 44,474.

On a week-by-week basis, all machines bar the PS2 saw improvements for the last week in November. Wii sales increased by 54 per cent, whilst DS sales climbed 35 per cent and PSP 24 per cent.

Yeah but if you saw last weeks sales figures i Japan, you will see the PS3 sales figures have dropped by about 20,000 for that week and the Wii is the number one seller again. The PS3 outsould the Wii for about 2 weeks in November, due to the price cut. I think the Wii will keep the number one spot until the new year. Temporary blip!

This was just 2 weeks of aberration. In addition to the PS2 pricecut already mentioned Nintendo were moving all the stock they could to the USA for their thanksgiving. Just look at the USA Nintendo figures for November!!!

Go Sony! Oh, wait there's a comment at the bottom of the headline. That ruins all its credibility.
