PS3 Blu-Ray player gets update

Tomorrow’s 2.10 firmware patch ups movie player to latest Blu-Ray format, Profile 1.1

PS3’s reputation as one of the best Blu-Ray players on the marketplace will take a further boost tomorrow with the arrival of Sony’s latest firmware update, taking the disc standard to what is known as ‘Profile 1.1’.

Though to many PS3 owners this will mean absolutely nothing, it does mean that PS3 will be ready to make the most of the new features boasted by the second generation of Blu-Ray films, most notable of which is picture-in-picture display – very handy for director commentaries.

Other new features on the way include AVI, DivX and wmv video support, and obscurely, a new voice changer that will allow annoying American teenagers to augment their already annoying voices when playing online games, resulting most likely in an even higher level of general annoyance.

Voice changer?

Not much of an update to the system but a voice changer?? Sounds like the OLD Xbox Live on the old Xbox which was removed because it was indeed a useless feature.

A blu-ray update to support Java+ would have been better.

Rya, I believe this update is the BD-J.

The voice changer whilst you may not approve, is something a million kids are going to use. A fun item, that's all it is, because the PS3 is fun. No-one said it was an essential item, no one said it served any purpose in life but it's just a little feature that some people will enjoy. But then 360 owners wouldn't know much about having fun - all they seem to do is spend their time on forums having a dig at PS3 owners. (Probably because their 360 is back at Microsoft being repaired.)

Ha, and also looking at other forums on this subject, the amount of people that are happy to see the voice changer option. Shows it isn't such a useless feature after all.

The voice changer on the xbox was a dreadful idea, loads of idiot 13 and 14 year olds calling you a ***, a camping *** or a j*wish camping *** in a crummy robot or squeeky high pitched voice.

Those who think it's a good idea have clearly never ever experienced it and after they do will be wishing their friends or opponents don't decide to use it.
