Europe highlighted as key territory by platform holder
Microsoft has predicted that it will sell more Xbox 360 units next year than it managed in 2007 – particularly in Japan.
And the platform holder has labelled Europe as the vital territory to conquer in order to outperform rival Sony.
"We will sell more consoles next year than this year," head of global marketing for Microsoft's games business Jeff Bell told Reuters.
He added: "Europe for us is still the swing. The biggest challenge is that Sony as a brand has had greater staying power than in other areas. Not just PlayStation 3, but Sony as a brand."
Bell said that the Xbox 360 was still strong in Britain and gaining market share in France and Germany.
He added that the 360’s potential in Japan was being improved by more games being made by popular Japanese designers.

Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
Considering Sony treats its UK/Euroland customers with utter contempt, I'm not surprised at all that Microsoft will aim for it next year.
It's quite remarkable how all three console vendors focus on pleasing America and Japan first and then finally, turn their attention to us and simply believe that they can fool everyone.
Not so.
Re: Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
im getting rid of my 360 soon if microsoft dont respond...ive no xbox live gold since the last update and theyve charged me for a month and ignored FOUR emails....great customer service huh! and judging by their forums its happened to hundreds if not thousands of people!
Re: Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
The three platform holders have always thought of Europe last, and thats not going to change any time soon.
With the amount of money Europeans (especially Britons) put into their pockets, you'd think they'd treat us better.
Re: Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
they may be aiming to sell more consoles but i think i will be trading my 360 in for a ps3....because xbox live no longer works because of MS's update and they don't seem to care...6 emails later and they aint arsed...so im moving to ps3!
Re: Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
Have you tried ringing them?
Re: Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
Emails? Ring them for christ sake...
Re: Not surprised they're targetting UK/Euroland.
tried....one ignored....one went to pass me to another department then hung up....another passed me to another department..waited about 20-30mins and then suggested resetting the console lol..they haven't a clue...i seemed to know more than them about their big problem! just look on the media player/xbox/microsoft/zune forums...everyones having it happen to 'em!
Embarrassing for Microsoft.
Oh dear, that's not good.
Bet many X360 fans will be extremely unhappy about not being able to play games on-line and chat with friends, over the Xmas period.
Doesn't that make fora good story for MCV to chase up in the new year?
Happy 2008 to everyone, by the way!
