Midway and SCi considering merger?

Online rumours point toward more publisher consolidation

Online games portal Next-Gen is claiming that ‘a source’ has told it that Midway is sizing up SCi/Eidos for a possible merger.

SCi last year openly admitted to be courting the business world for offers for the company. And Midway and SCi were said to have been in preliminary talks in 2003.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter added that despite what he described as the relative weakness of the two firms, a merger could prove of some benefit: "In this case, one plus one could equal a 2.2 or 2.5.”

SCi boasts a number of successful IPs including Tomb Raider, Hitman, Just Cause and Kane & Lynch, whilst Midway boasts the likes of Mortal Kombat, Stranglehold, Unreal Tournament and Area 51.

None of those were successful

SCi only has Tomb Raider but even then that game didnt exactly sell bucket loads, and every other game in that category did terrible apart from Midway's UT which number 3 might do better than the previous version.

But overall the 2 companies combined rubbish games = more rubbish imo.
