EA’s powerhouse football sim tops the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40

Following Activision’s victory in the Christmas battle and Ubisoft’s in the New Year chart, it’s business as usual this week with EA’s FIFA series claiming the top spot in ChartTrack’s first 2008 Top 40 – just as it did in 2007.

Last week’s number one, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed, drops to number four after a 70 per cent drop in sales. There isn’t a single title in the Top 40 that doesn’t lose sales this week, including Call of Duty 4, which despite a 56 per cent drop in sales climbs one position to second spot.

Else where in the chart, The Golden Compass claims its highest chart position yet, climbing to seventh place whilst THQ’s WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 comes perilously close to dropping out of the Top Ten.

Re-entries include Nintendo’s Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree in 25th and EA’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 40th.

The ChartTrack All Formats Top 10 in full:

I've always been a Pro Evolution player and disliked all previous Fifa's, but Fifa 08 has me hooked for some reason. Well worth the top spot in my opinion.

"all the best games dont sell"

Yeah, weird isn't it. But then my nephew had a go on it the other day and spent a good half an hour sorting his teams roster etc and loved the fact he was playing as Manchester United with all official names with which he supports in real life. You cant do that (without extra work) to Pro Evolution Soccer.

He didn't like PES simply because he couldn't play using his supported team.

Bring out a football game with PES gameplay and Fifa's options and shine, you have yourself a title that will go down in gaming history methinks.

I'm sure that Nintendo's "42 All Time Classics" for DS would still be in the Top 10, if it were still available - there are no copies anywhere, online or in the High Street.
