ELSPA meets with MP over new game rating bill

Director general of trade body ELSPA Paul Jackson has met with Julian Brazier MP to discuss a proposed Private Members Bill in relation to game rating classification. Brazier’s bill could result in the classification of films and games to come under the scrutiny of Parliament, and cause a major shake-up in hoew games are rated.

I was most grateful for the opportunity to meet with Mr Brazier to explain how the classification system for games currently works and the challenges we face in this area,” said ELSPA’s Jackson. Mr Brazier took the opportunity to express his concerns on the impact of violence in films and games on society which led to the introduction of his Bill. We also discussed the possible negative impact this bill could have on the games classification system and the challenges we would face as an industry with the proposed system in place.”

Following on from this we agreed to stay in close contact and give advice and clarification to ensure the views of the industry are taken into account while the Bill is being developed and its merits debated by the House,” added Jackson
