Finger pointed at Nintendo boss for death of N64 Xbox Live conversion
First there was hope that an Xbox Live Arcade version of Rare’s N64 classic Goldeneye was nearly with us, then there was the crushing disappointment of reality – but now claims have emerged about the real reason for the cancellation of Rare’s nearly complete XBLA project.
Kotaku claims that sources from within Microsoft have told the site that it was not financial wrangling that doomed the project only weeks from extinction – instead, they claim that Nintendo president Saturo Iwata was personally behind it.
Apparently Iwata was uncomfortable with the idea of a Nintendo-only game appearing on a rival’s console. And this is despite the fact that Microsoft was prepared to allow Rare’s back-catalogue to be released on Nintendo’s Virtual Console service as well as on its own network.

Unified console?
Uh oh, I hate to say it, but this would never happen if there was a unified console architecture. There'd be no petty squabbling between platform owners, and brilliant projects like this wouldn't be canned because of selfish decisions. Certainly not "in the interest of the consumer"...
Re: Unified console?
I would love to see a unified format, remember 3DO ? What a great idea! I wish that had taken off :O(

Ahh, finally the 'happy, friendly, family company' show their true colours.
Re: Unified console?
Makes sense to me, it'd be like Halo being available on Nintendo's Virtual Console. It was, after all, one of the N64's launch titles and is synonamous with that system in my opinion. It's still a business at the end of the day.
