Whilst PS3 lags behind rivals in both annual and life-to-date sales
In a year that has seen all of the so-called seventh-generation of machines fully established and battling it out on the market, Nintendo’s DS has emerged as the top selling console in the US in 2007.
The DS shifted 8.5 million units throughout the year in the US, well ahead of its closest rival, Nintendo’s own Wii, which sold 6.29 million.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 shifted 4.62 million units, managing to outperform Sony’s last-gen powerhouse PS2 which sold 3.97 million machines – narrowly ahead of PSP at 3.82 million and well ahead of Sony’s current console darling, the PS3, which managed 2.56 million, becoming the worst selling console in the period.
The PS2 still leads the pack when it comes to lifetime sales, which stand at 41.12 million. DS has to date sold 17.65 million units, followed by PSP at 10.47 million. Xbox 360 has sold 9.15 million machines, Wii 7.38 million and PS3 3.25 million.

I just don't get it.
Why don't people realise the PS3 is the most powerful console available - they keep buying wii's.
And as for the DS, why buy it? It's just a bit of fun.
Re: This article is inaccurate
The article isn't inaccurate, the DS and Wii is outstripping the PS3 in every territory. Being the 'most powerful console', (a claim that has yet to be proven by with the PS3's software), doesn't mean its the best games console, it certainly isn't home to the best games. Also the Wii and DS appeals to a much wider demograhpic than the PS3.
Re: This article is inaccurate
Agree. More power does not always equal the best games etc. Nintendo's innovative shift in philosophy for their games/consoles, rather than just build the most powerful machines (and more expensive) is a refreshing change.
Re: This article is inaccurate
The gamecube and xbox were both more powerfull than the ps2 but the ps2 far outsold them both. More power doent make a better gaming console, it's all about the games and ps3 doesn't have many great games just yet. Only time will tell on this one
