DSGi refuses to stock next-gen remake, whilst anti-bullying groups kick off

With the Manhunt 2 saga still far from passed, Rockstar is now staring another gaming controversy in the face as forces begin to gather in oppositio to its upcoming release of Bully: Scholarship Edition on Xbox 360 and Wii.

CVG reports that the DSGi group, which owns High Street retailers such as PC World and Currys, will again refuse to stock the game in its stores, as it did with the original.

And The Daily Telegraph reports that charity BeatBullying is also up in arms, quoting the organisation’s Niall Cowley as stating:

Aardman

“We're disappointed this game was created in the first place. Some mindless people thought this was a fun, interesting piece of software to create, but it undermines all the hard work that organisations like ours are seeking to do.

"Our philosophy is about educating young people that bullying is not a cool thing to do, and this leaves us with a bad taste in the mouth."

Cowley added that upon the release of the first game, Rockstar offered to make a donation to his charity:

"It was the most distasteful thing in the world - the idea that we could be bought off like that. We have the interests of the children of this country in our mind, not of the shareholders of this company."

I was wondering if any of these groups/people actually played this game? I spent most of my time in the game actually protecting the nerds from the jocks and greasers. There was nothing distasteful about this game.

If anything Rockstar should have promoted this as an anti-bullying game?

I agree with Mr Kennedy on this,
i played through the original game (with the irritating title Canis Canem Edit)
this game does not and never has encouraged bullying if anything the game discourages it, I wish all the anti gaming politicians and anti gaming groups actually played the games they protest against, granted manhunt 2 is a violent game but that is why it is marked 18, If we need to do something about games how about lets educate parents what the purpose of an Age Label is.

Far to many anti gaming groups still view games as a childs pass-time ignoring the fact that the majority of gamers are well into their 20's-40's. I say if people actually read the label before buying the game for their childtren then possibly just possibly we might have far less of these stupid complaints from anti gaming groups.

Another great thing would be if the papers stopped going on about worse case scenarios, in the case of manhunt 1 what happened to Stefan Pakeerah was wrong and also very sad, however no matter how much evidence there is to prove Waren Leblank(seeing as it was found in the Victims room not the killers and the only evidence we have the killer had ever played the game was the victims mother who would obviously be biassed) did not own the game and the fact both the killer and the victim shouldnt have had the game as they were both minors is always ignored by the hysterical media,Games dont kill people, People Kill People.

The Bottom Line?

How about we work harder on educating parents and children alike on what is acceptable and what is not and actually try enforce a ratings system to avoid stupid censorship and media hysteria over games taht frankly are there for people who are old enough and mature enough to play them Instead of just banning games and working ourselves up over the latest game that kills people then sitting back blindly while our govornment sends our friends and family off to die in a pointless war?

but to be fair....rockstar do bring it on themselves....far less people minded it being called canis canem edit (i dont know and cant be bothered to find out what it means) than bully....the name bully makes it sound bad to people who will never pick up a pad. I have played CCE and it was a cracking game...and like the poster says above...if anything, a ANTI-bullying game!
