Nintendo shifts two million Wii consoles in UK, DS claims 79 per cent of handheld market
Nintendo UK has revealed an impressive set of console hardware figures, stating that Wii has sold over two million units in the UK and DS now has an installed base of over five million.
Wii was the best selling home console of 2007 in the UK and now has an installed base of over two million units, surpassing the installed base of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 which launched one year earlier. It also claimed a 45 per cent market share in the home console market.
DS was the top selling console of any kind during 2007, and boasts a 79 per cent handheld console market share. Combined sales of both of Nintendo’s Dr Kawashima Brain Training titles in the UK have now passed two and a half million units and were the top two selling software titles of 2007, while Nintendo’s Touch! Generations range now accounts for 56 per cent of all first party software sold for Nintendo DS in 2007 within the UK.

A sad day for the real gamer.
Today I feel a moment of sadness that Nintendo have conquered the world with the likes of the wii and DS. Forever more all we will get as gamers are ****py games trying to increse the worlds IQ to 12 and stupid tamagotchi style games only costing us £30 as apposed to the 10 a ****py tamagotchi costs. Still role on GTA at least for the time being real games are here to stay.
Re: A sad day for the real gamer.
real games such as zack & wiki, zelda: twilight princess, super mario galaxy, metroid prime corruption and red steel? fair enough. don't worry though, the wii and ds are just fads and will die off soon. wait a sec, that's from a post in 2006..........
Re: A sad day for the real gamer.
A "real gamer" would embrace wii, for one reason. Its got variety. Casual games galore - hardcore games galore. Galaxy, Prime 3, Twilight Princess, No More Heroes, Brawl, Zack and Wiki are living alongside Endless Ocean, Big Brain Academy and Wii Play. A real gamer would be happy that the market is opening up.
