Microsoft games division sees games sales rise 30 per cent year-on-year
Microsoft’s Xbox games team has announced an operating profit of $357 million for its 2008 second fiscal quarter – up from a $302 million loss the year before.
According to Next-Gen, Operating income within the Entertainment and Devices division primarily increased because of increased revenue, decreased cost of revenue and decreased marketing and sales expenses.
Lower manufacturing costs for Xbox 360 hardware pushed down the cost of revenue down $523 million, or 22 percent, during the quarter.
Total revenues for the EDD, were $3.06 billion, up from $3 billion for the same period a year prior.
Overall, Microsoft posted fiscal Q2 sales of $16.37 billion (up 30 percent year-on-year), operating income of $6.48 billion (up 87 percent) and earnings per share of 50 cents (up 92 percent).

Strange?
Where are the PS3 fanboys?
Come on, get yer claws out!
Re: Strange?
Cant say much when Sony has been making loads of losses and only sold just over 5million consoles...
Re: Strange?
They are lying low, trying to find a way of explaining why the PS3 version of GTA4 was the reason for the 6 month delay in the release and that it was down to the programmers struggling to get it to look just as good as the 360 version. Which they have now managed. They are now identical... apart from the fact that they will only get the Base game, no extra chapters..
Nevermind, they can always buy the Gran Turismo Beta. Dont know how they can justify paying for a beta, but they will think of something.
Re: Strange?
Spot on guys!!
And still no PS3 fanboys?
Interesting.........
Re: Strange?
OH THEYRE THERE THEY ARE JUST TOO SUPERIOR FOR THE LIKES OF US 360 AND WII OWNERS. LMAO
Re: Strange?
Strange. Doesn't mention the impact of the extended warranty costs due to the poorly built hardware ;-) Maybe they're offseting it for future financial years?
Re: Strange?
Extended Warranty costs. I think they wrote that off way back. Either that or there just isnt a mentionable amount of the write off contributable to Q2? Either way it doesnt really matter. Its the games that matter. ;)
