Huge numbers sign up to online service, outstripping SCEE expectations
SCEE president and CEO David Reeves has told MCV that both user registrations and online purchases through PlayStation Network are ahead of SCEE’s expectations.
“One thing that has surprised us is in the Network purchases and the general level of interest that has been shown around the Network business,” he said.
“We’ve gone from zero to almost double-digit millions in terms of what people have purchased in euros.
We’ve now got about two million PSN registrations. That’s about 40 per cent of users. We’ve also had around 33 million downloads, which is a huge number. And we’ve got 25 stores up and running across the PAL territories.”

Just think of the number of downloads, and the amount of money you could of made if SingStar had the 300+ plus tracks we where promised :)

Not really a surprise that people are buying the network games. Since theres nothing to buy at retail!

Just a small observation but if 2 million is 40% of the complete installed user base of the PS3 that would mean they had sold 12 million not the 9.5 million they were boasting yesterday so either they sold another 2.5 million overnight or some ones been telling fibs.
“Most of them are wallpapers!”

Most of the downloads on PSN are wallpapers because everything else is either late, extortionately priced (in contrast with the US store) or simply never materialises.
PSN Europe is a joke (just read PSN Update posts on threespeech.com) - I bet all the downloads happen from US store because every self-respecting Euro PS3 owner has an illegal US account as well.
Not because they love it so much, but purely due to sheer desperation!
If Europe is so important to Sony (as this twot claims) then why treat customers with utter contempt?!

Or someone doesn't know how to do simple math...
“Re: Really”

Uh, sorry, maths-boy. If 2 million is 40% of the installed base, the installed base is a measly 5 million.
40% + 40% + 20% = 100%
2 + 2 + 1 = 5
And then somone has REALLY been lying...

Perhaps its 40% for Europe which would make the figure more on track, as he is the president of sony computer entertainment Europe.

Yes, he is talking about just the SCEE territories, not counting SCEA or Japan.
And Weezer, the simple math comment was directed at Mr. GS, who came to the conclusion that 2 million was 40% of 12 million. Read all the comments before posting next time.

Reeves, you are clearly on acid.
Every single time an EU store update arrives there is an outpouring of venom on every PS3 website as the updates are viewed by the vast majority to be an utter waste of time due to the rubbish you put on it.
You are totally out of touch with your customers.
And oh yes, observe your hair, Ifind it most comical.

Mr. Math: My comment was directed at Mr GS - you snuck in while I was typing.
Hadn't figured he was talking Europe only.

Actually I like the Euro PSN store, and I don't have a US PSN account. And actually it's only people like yourself Ton Capone that post anti-PSN comments on other sites like Three Speech.com. If you actually read Three Speech properly you would see that for every negative comment that people like you make, there is the same number of positive comments. And from experience of life, when things are good, people don't bother to say thanks etc. all the time, they just get on what they were already doing. It's only the people that like to complain all the time that want to say something. It's only the bad stuff people want to keep highlighting. And it's only your opinion that you find faults in the PSN - other people like me have not.
And Zed Zee, how come you know so much about the PSN yet you don't even have a PS3 to visit the store? There's plenty of other good things on there and it's something that I, as someone that upgraded from a PS2 to a PS3, never had before, so I find it extremely good and useful. I would never have bought half the PS3 games that I have done if it wasn't for the PSN store because I bought the games on the back of the demo.
And yes, the mathS is correct. The 40% is on the Euro figures. So that would be 40% of 5 million which is exactly 2 million. Oh, and 5 million just so happens to be the number of PS3s sold in Europe.

@ Clank
Of course I'm going to complain about stuff I don't like, why would I complain about stuff I do like?
If you don't like a service etc it is your duty to complain to inform the service provider that you are not happy otherwise they may think everything is fine and everyone is happy just like Reeves, and nothing will change, even Reeves' barnet which is quite frankly beyond ridicule.
“@Ton”

I'm not saying you shouldn't complain. I'm saying that it's unfair to keep saying that there is an "outpour of venom" because it always is the same people that voice their opinion week after week and you don't read about the millions of happy users to the service because they just don't sit on the forums every week saying how much they like the service. It's also unfair to refer to "the vast majority" as by that I think you are implying the vast majority of PS3 owners, whereas I suspect if you did a survey of PS3 owners and asked them their opinion of the PSN and you got everyone to respond, the figures would show that the majority of users were actually happy with the service. I reckon it's only a very small minority that have gone to the bother of creating Jap/US accounts and compare the stores and maybe the Euro store is worse than those but I wouldn't know as I have no intention of finding out.

@15
Question is, out of the people that would say that they're happy with PSN, how many of them have used XBOX Live?
I'm sure PSN is fine but isnt the whole argument between these consoles about which one is better?
