Sony shows off new look PS3 Home

Visual revamp and redesigned world designed to make Home easier to navigate

Though there’s still no word on when it will arrive with PS3 gamers, or even when to expect a public beta, Sony has shown off the latest build of its console social networking community Home to attendees at a recent technology show in Monte Carlo, CVG reports.

The most obvious changes include a substantial upsizing of many of the in-world locations, with previously indoor environments being replaced with larger, open-world settings.

Places such as the movie theatre have also been upscaled, and now include a bowling alley and arcade area. A series of chess and checkers tables have also appeared in the ‘game’s’ town square.

Sony also confirmed that Home development kits have already been sent out to third party software partners.

Show me the way to go Home

I'm undecided as to whether or not I'm excited by Home. A major new piece of PS3 functionality is always going to be cool to a certain extent... but faffing about in a virtual holiday resort playing chess and going to the cinema? I'd rather just hire a film on Sky or play chess online through Windows. I dunno - maybe it will be mind-blowing. But I worry that it might be pants.

Although HOME is an awesome idea and hope its flawless with no lag on servers or anything I still think Sony need to concentrate on the games.

Although I love the updates Sony has released for the PS3 that allows better functionality and options like when they do for the PSP but still the PS3 is in need of some bigger and better games and more exclusives.

Sony also need to give everyone the Dual Shock 3 as I am sure Japan isnt the only country that wants rumble in their pad...

Overall cant wait to see when HOME is launched and what it can really do.

HOME is going to be something quite unique! I for one can't wait for things like the movie theatre - the bowling alley sound great. I hope they integrate the motion sensitive controller to act like wii bowling

Women!

The funny thing about Home is that it will have a substantially smaller membership of women than men, for the obvious reasons that most gamers are guys.

It will be like being in a nightclub, whereby two girls can't dance with each other for very long on the dance floor, before a guy or two start hitting on them!

Home is going to be the same and I find that very funny...

It's like a geek's dating site...LOL.

It was so disapointing to hear that Home had been delayed in the first place. I wish Sony would be more honest about the release dates for their products. You cant help but think that the original release date was always going to slip but Sony didn't come clean in hope that more consoles would shift before year end. Phil Harrison then came out and said that although it wasn't going to be released, open beta was still coming out in December. That didn't materialise either. I've been quite pacient with Sony...I've had my PS3 since launch in UK but this is really starting to wind me up.
