PES gets North American name change

Konami drops the Winning Eleven moniker, bringing it in line with European brand

IGN is reporting that Konami’s popular footballing series is to undergo a name change in North America – dropping the Winning Eleven formula and instead adopting the until-now European-only Pro Evolution Soccer mantle.

The series will continue under the Winning Eleven brand in Japan, where PES2008 was known as Winning Eleven 2008.

The most recent edition, PES2008, already brought with it a rebranding of sorts, dropping the numerical naming seen in the series so far in favour of a more FIFA-like calendar-based title. Had this change not have occurred the most recent game would have been Winning Eleven 11, and Pro Evolution Soccer 7.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is scheduled to be released in North America on March 11th.
