EA opens huge Madrid testing centre

Publisher’s sprawling Spanish office will house around 300 employees

Electronic Arts, has opened a European test centre in Madrid, which will employ between 200 and 400 people from 20 European countries.

According to Sky News, Madrid was chosen over 27 other cities, including London, Prague and Warsaw, because of its geographical location and popularity as a travel destination.

"We decided several years ago that we needed to centralise all of our services," said EA's international VP for development services, Jaime Gine.

According to sky, employees must pass through several doors to get to their work stations and entry is restricted to holders of magnetic-strip cards.

Many of the office’s staff translate video games developed by the firm in English into 17 European languages.

"Our job is to make sure that the translation matches the context and the development of the game," Laurent Gabas, a 25-year-old French games tester and former languages student, told Sky.

"The location has nothing to do with me being Spanish", Jaime added.
