Metal Gear Solid Collection confirmed

To arrive in US before MGS4, though no word yet on a Euro release

After a period of speculation and gossip, Konami has finally confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection will be arriving on PS2 shortly – in the US at least.

The game includes the original PSOne Metal Gear Solid, the Director’s Cut edition of Metal Gear Solid 2 and the most recent console release of the series, Metal Gear Solid 3. It will also include some artwork from renowned Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa.

It will retail for the discount price of $29.99 (around £15).

Though no date has been specified, Konami has said that the game will ship in North America before the arrival of PS3 outing Metal Gear Solid 4 – though we don’t yet know when that will be released.

“Since its inception, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been one of the most successful game series in the history of video games, receiving worldwide recognition and praise,” Konami’s VP of marketing Anthony Crouts stated.

Not to be a wet blanket...

Am I the only one who's thinking that it shouldn't really be that difficult to port Twin Snakes (the MGS 1 remake for gamecube) to the PS2? Personally, as much as I absolutely LOVED the original MGS game, it's a little difficult for me to get excited about a repackaging of games I've already played. This sort of seems like a last desperate push to sell a few more copies of the older MGS games before the new one comes out.

Its a way of drawing in new customers who have heard so much about the originals, but never had a chance to play them! Better then paying lots of money for the rare original copy's!
