And this time there will also be PS2 and Wii versions alongside 360, PS3 and PC
As part of its third quarter financial statement, US publisher Activision also confirmed that a new instalment to its Call of Duty series will be with us in fiscal 2009 – in other words between April this year and March next.
Furthermore, the next game will also be released on Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PS2 – as well as on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Activision’s latest instalment in the series, Call of Duty 4, was the top-selling game in 2007, becoming both a critical and commercial success.
It’s not known whether the next title will be called Call of Duty 5, or whether it will instead be a series spin-off. It’s also not known whether it will retain COD4’s present-day setting or instead favour a return to series’ World War roots (as has been rumoured).

Danger
Of course the idea of a new COD is great, but I'm cautious about it arriving too soon. Part of the reason why COD4 was great was that Infinity Ward had 2 years to work on it (with Treyarch handling duties on COD3). Can they really turn around another classic in just one year? Please god don't let this mean that Treyarch are back at the healm...
Re: Danger
Treyarch have already been confirmed as the developers, they have been already working on COD 5 for some time most likely. COD 4 was in development by Infinity ward long before COD 3 hit the shelves last time.
Re: Danger
Treyarch are developing 5? Oh well, best hold out for IW's COD6 then :-(
Re: Danger
COD4 has been a very fluid and very addictive game to play. I would just say that the focus should stay on modern battlefield urban ops stuff, because its just as unpredictable as the ever changing enviornment. Add things like the ability to remove Silencers while playing like R6 and unlockable weapons like a mini gun or C4 that you can throw onto your opponent and detinate. Right now COD4 is as addictive as crack was in the 80's due to its realisium. I think going back to WWI or WWII would be an injustice to the current game.
