Corporate VP Shane Kim also refuses to rule out portable Xbox
Speaking to a reporter from The New York Times, Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Shane Kim has said that there’s a long way to go before the winner of the current generation of consoles is crowned.
When asked about Wii’s seemingly unstoppable momentum, Wired quotes Kim as saying: "The generation has a long way to go so it's way too early to declare a winner.
"I remember a couple of weeks ago, a lot of people were predicting that the Patriots would win the Super Bowl, too.” For you Europeans out there – the New England Patriots (who were the favourites) lost the Superbowl to the New York Giants.
And when questioned about the possibility of Microsoft making a move into the portable gaming market, he added: "Never say never.
“Launching a portable device is like launching another Xbox 360. You have to really step back and ask ‘devoting whatever bandwidth and resources you would have to make the Zune a multifunction device, is that really the best way to go?’."

My message to Mr Kim would be that all the UK newspapers predicted that NY would win the Super Bowl only the US press were fooled.Until XBox improves the 40% failure rate (as shown by a Dutch Consumer group) on their machines no German would ever buy it!

Mr
I would love to see a portable xbox, but hope they don't make the same mistake PSP made, lovely graphics, great sounds but awfull load times on games with umd (umd are good for films only). Still can't understand why they didn't us memory stick (they own the tech). Ds good, great load times (but poor graphics and sound) compared to the PSP.
Re: Mr
Yep his correct. The only one counsel that HAS already done better Wii and that PS2.
Yep PS2, the PS3 and XBox 360 is in another league.
Re: Mr
Am I the only one who doesn't understand what Walt is say
saying?
The resources required for 3D games as on the PSP would cost too much to distribute on flash Memory Stick. They should have put an iPod HDD in the PSP and distributed games over wifi.
Not invented yet.
@ Rikki:
I don't understand a single word that "Walt Disney" is saying either!
As for digitial distribution on the PSP, well, you have to remember that when it came out, neither broadband nor on-line digital distribution had really kicked off properly yet, so it was probably never on the drawing board, hence the UMD.
I think it's still fine, but I do agree that the load times are atrocious! Even on PSP Slim, you should try playing games like Pro Evo Soccer - it takes ages to load!
Re: Not invented yet.
In relation to comments about the PSP, do bear in mind that the PSP HAS been a tremendously successful console. The fact that the DS has been 'more' successful doesn't mean PSP has been a failure. So if Microsoft were to release a handheld, it could still be successful in its own right even if it didn't match the sales performance of the PSP or DS.
