Microsoft confirms that it is to cease production of its HD-DVD attachment following format’s demise
Following Toshiba’s decision to cease development and production of HD-DVD equipment, Microsoft has now confirmed that manufacturing of its HD-DVD add-on for Xbox 360 is also to end.
A statement from the firm read: ”As a result of recent decisions made by Toshiba, Hollywood studios, and retailers, Microsoft plans to withdraw from HD-DVD.
“Xbox will no longer manufacture new HD-DVD players for the Xbox 360, but we will continue to provide standard product and warranty support for all Xbox 360 HD-DVD players in the market.
“As we stated earlier, we do not believe this decision will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. HD-DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room, along with playback of the DVD movies they already own.”
Speculation continues concerning the possibility of a Blu-Ray drive arriving on Xbox 360 at some point, though there has been no confirmation as of yet.

There you go
Kind of inevitable really. Let's see what the HD-DVD fan boys have to say about that.
Re: There you go
I'm excited about getting the HD-DVD movies on the cheap. There's a ton of movies I would like, but I don't want to pay $20 for them.
Re: There you go
That's one hell of a positive spin to put on the death of a format you've spent at least £130 on!
The end.
We have seen the end of Kenobi, soon we will see the end of the rebellion...
Re: The end.
Bring me the rebels, I WANT THEM ALIVE!
Re: The end.
I hope Microsoft do decide to bring out a Blu-Ray drive. I'm stuck with this damn HD-DVD drive :(
Re: The end.
@6 - Do yourself a big favour, sell it (plus any HD-DVDs you have) on eBay now whilst there are still mugs around like XYBA Podcast above that will still buy into this dead technology and then go out and buy a PS3 or other Blu-Ray drive with the cash you've made. Otherwise in a year's time you'll be stuck with something that no-one will ever buy from you and when it breaks you'll end up having to throw it in the trash, along with the disks too.

@7
As once said by Arnold J. Rimmer:
"We all have something to contribute to this debate. But from now on, what you should contribute is silence."
Re: The end.
Actually Mr T it was "Look, we all have something to bring to this discussion. But I think from now on the thing you should bring is silence."
I read the top 25 TV put downs that were published as well. you know, so you're not being clever. Anyway, what was wrong with what I said? You don't own this forum. What I said is perfectly justified and valid. The poster in 6 claimed he was stuck with an HD-DVD drive and wants a Blu-Ray drive. Now he's either stuck with the HD for life until it breaks (which being a Microsoft piece of hardware is probably quite likely) or he can do something about it. If he wants a Blu-Ray now, he should get a PS3 as it's the best BR drive on the market, or he could hope and wait MS bring out a BR drive - but there's no way that is guaranteed to happen. However, he admitted himself that he's stuck with a HD drive. So I suggested to sell it whilst he can to at least cut his losses and get something back on it.
I don't understand you Mr T, one minute you post something to encourage HD-DVD "fan boys" to start commenting, and the next you're saying I have nothing to contribute even when I've put together a perfectly reasonable case together for helping a person out that clearly has regretted buying into a technology that is now redundant and soon to be worthless.
You're a bit of an idiot really, you're clearly the one that had nothing to contribute in your last post but you wanted to try and be funny probably because you just like the sound of your own voice and think that you should always have the final say.
Re: The end.

7 and 9 is right. You're a class A dumb****.
His point is by far VERY sensible and what anyone who isnt ******ed would do. I might just wait a buy a HD-DVD drive off someone for 25$ down the road, and get the discs for dirt cheap too. And I'll have a decent selection of HD movies for under 100$
Re: The end.
Jeeeez..... Calm down people! I simply reacted to your ridiculous Xbox 360 bashing. And it was ridiculous. The failure of HD-DVD has not rendered 360 obsolete, believe it or not.
Re: The end.
Well I think you misunderstood Mr T. I was not saying to sell the 360, I was saying to sell only the HD-DVD drive. I was not bashing the 360 in any way. The poster in 6 said "I'm stuck with this damn HD-DVD drive" and I followed with "...sell it.." with IT referring only to the drive. Nothing about the 360 itself.
Re: The end.
OK, fair enough, In that case accept my humble apologies. And an AK-47 up the ****, of course, as I'm Mr.T.
