Fantasy games pioneer Gary Gygax invented RPG franchise that first hit stores in 1974
The co-creator of the hugely popular Dungeons and Dragons game, which has become a seminal franchise in video games history, has died age 69 at his Lake Geneva Home.
Gary Gygax’s death was confirmed by his wife, reports the Associated Press.
Along with fellow D&D creator David Arneson, Gygax kicked off one of the most successful fantasy series in history.
The game was first introduced in 1974, and has since spawned countless books and other commercial merchandise. It is estimated that over 20 million people have played the game in some capacity.
Dungeons & Dragons has been very successfully translated into videogames, particularly Dungeons & Dragons Online.

Enjoying writing up a new character in the afterlife right now.
Well played Mr Gy***, you will be remembered by DM's everywhere!
Re: A Legend Dies...
Until you have experienced an adventurers group with a DM , character sheet and many sided diced - you can never understand the appeal of playing a game limited only by your imagination.
A fond farewell Mr G.
Re: A Legend Dies...
Brilliant words Shaun, absolutely brilliant, and I couldn't agree more.
Stay strong and let the force be with you.
