Olympics title sells like hotcakes worldwide; but no word yet on another collaboration
Next-gen.biz has revealed that current chart topper Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games has sold five million copies worldwide – but Sega of America COO and president Simon Jeffery has said that Sega won’t be rushing into another Mario and Sonic title.
"Getting Mario and Sonic together in the first place took so long, every decade, to make that happen," he told next-gen. "So I think rushing into any other collaboration is not going to happen. It's going to be fairly calculated."
Hitting five million since its launch pre-Christmas is quite an achievement for Sega – but there’s more to come as the hype for the Olympic games builds, adds Jeffery. "There have only been three months so far and the Olympics themselves are another four months away. We're expecting to sell quite a few million more globally, hopefully between now and the end of this year."

Segatendo
Ever get the feeling two companies are meant to merge?
Re: Segatendo
Aw man, that would be the best thing ever, sort of.
Imagine if Nintendo and SEGA worked together in the next console race?
Hardware and Software designed by both parties together.
The end of all this trash talk from Sony and Microsoft fanboys.
A return to the golden age of gaming when the games we're actually games.
Aaah.
Re: Segatendo
Nintendo don't need to merge with anyone. I guess it'd be an interesting acquisition for them.
I ordered in loads of Mario and Sonic when it was released before Christmas and it sold like hot cakes. Took a few weeks to get going, which worried me, but then for no reason sales just took off.
I may not sell as much software on Wii, when compared to 360 or PS3, in terms of volume of software sold. But when a big game comes out for the Wii it just keeps on selling.
Wii games have a massive lifecycle. I'm already discounting Turok, but can still sell Mario Galaxy and Sonic and the Secret rings at full price.
Which is great.
