Founder Sam Houser says online Grand Theft Auto is the ‘Holy Grail’
Whilst the news of online-mutliplayer for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 4 is exciting enough, the latest rumblings to come out of Rockstar are even more titillating.
Speaking to EGM magazine, Rockstar founder Sam Houser has said that an MMO version of Grand Theft Auto is “very, very doable” and is a “very compelling proposition”.
He also goes on to describe a subscription-based GTA MMO as “the Holy Grail”, though he does acknowledge the difficulty in combining GTA’s destructive gameplay with the persistent world ideals of MMO gaming.
Could an online-only version of Rockstar’s massive franchise be the bridge to finally traverse the murky waters that separate PC MMO’ing from console-based subscription games?

That's just me but once I have bought the game that's it I don't believe in then paying monthly ontop of my broadband and on top of paying for say Xbox Live as well.

This could be do-able, the obvious way to do it would surely be to try the in-game-ad route rather than a monthly subscription, and paid download additional content ala Oblivion etc. Saints Row has sort of proven some of what can be done with online gaming and you could level up by moving up within a gang or mafia sort of role.
Lets just hope if there serious about it that Ea dont buy Take-Two and ruin some more classic titles.

This would be the one MMO I would willingly pay for.

I guess they'll wait and see how APB does then maybe decide whether to go forward as thats also a crime kinda MMO.
Unless its almost like a mmorpg where you do missions against npcs to get through the game and lvl etc.
