Both Blu-Ray and PSN versions dated for March, along with PS3 hardware bundle

Having altered things ever so slightly since its last release schedule, Sony has confirmed that the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released on Wednesday March 26th in the UK for £24.99.

That’s the date for the Blu-Ray version, at least. A download-only PSN version will arrive a day later – and whilst no price has yet been confirmed for this, if the company follows the same model as it did for Incognito’s Warhawk then the online version should be a shade cheaper.

Also confirmed for March 27th is the launch of a GT5 Prologue PS3 bundle, which will include the disc version of the game, a 40GB PS3 and Sixaxis joypad for £299.99.

The game itself, a precursor to the 2009 release of the full-blooded Gran Turismo 5, includes 71 cars, six tracks and online multiplayer for up to 16 gamers. It also boasts Gran Turismo TV, which will offer racing-related video content and even episodes of the BBC’s popular Top Gear.

“Why not the full game?”

This is the second time Polyphony have released a Prologue version of a GT game. What's the problem with simply getting the full game completed and released? I'm surprised a studio as inefficient as this is able to survive.

Yeah, I'm loving just waiting for this game to hit the States PD/Sony. Thanks a bunch, really appreciate it.

I know the reason for the full game not being available...it's because each car takes a month to model. So, if you factor in the fact that there are traditionally over 300, 400, and sometimes 500 cars in GT...do the math.

Sony want to cash in on the furore that always revolves around a GT game. Seeing as the full game is still ages away, they don't want to miss out.

PD have stated in off-the-record interviews that they don't like the Prologues, and would rather spend their time on the game.

Like other racing games don't have detailed car models? Poor excuse from polyphony, that.

crikey...

If you don't like it, or even the idea of it - don't buy it.

The people claiming that this is a watered down version, or indeed a glorified demo are ill-educated or misinformed. It's a fully-fledged racing game with a wealth of options and modes.

No-one's forcing you to buy it!

Agreed, Sabs, but still, I do see their point. Whilst GT5 Prologue is equal in size to many full-price releases, it IS a watered down version of a larger game that is supposed to be coming out next year. Although GT fans will happily buy it, and there's no reason to expect they won't enjoy it, I'm sure the majority of them would rather be seeing the full game being released.

And how many people buy the exact same sport game year after year, with minor upgrades? I'm still try to get into GT3, but I can see these are high quality games, not rushed yearly editions.

Don't think anyone's disputing that, Matamanolos. We know GT5 Prologue will be extremely polished. But I'd rather be seeing the full GT5 on the shelves. I mean, it is already late.
