GTAIV masking ’recurring problems’ at Take Two

Michael Pachter predicts that publisher will enter into talks with EA before the release of next-gen title

In the wake of last night’s financial report from Rockstar-owning Take Two, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has stated that the upcoming financial uplift that will accompany the release of GTAIV is not enough to hide the problems faced by the publisher.

“Take Two is pretty much the same company it was over the past three years, but has the good fortune to have GTAIV coming out next month,” he stated.

“The game will mask recurring problems from the rest of the company’s operations, and calls into question the value of the rest of Take Two’s business.

“We envision a very proud EA making a firm offer of $26 for Take Two shares. We expect that in order to save face, Take Two management will withdraw its demand that any discussions wait until after the launch of GTA IV, and we think that management will engage in discussions with EA.

“We expect that all of this will transpire within the next few weeks, and are confident that an offer will be presented prior to Take-Two’s scheduled annual meeting on April 10.”

Am sorry but imo all he does is predict nonsense.

I dont want EA to take over a lot of people hate EA for many reasons.

Am already upset that they bought out Bioware!

What on earth is EA trying to do? Buy out everyone and destroy the gaming industry? Because they are already doing it!

I hope EA don't take over...

I'll be very disappointed.. But unfortunately it's kind of looking inevitable.

Please, no more of this anti-EA nonsense. And no, I don't work for them. And I don't have a particular love for them. But this idea that they're some big evil corporation looking to destroy the games industry for fun? Ridiculous.

EA Not a big evil corp? All they do is churn out sequel after sequel and buyout other publishers that have done the groundwork and actually published an original software title! They are almost singlehandedly destroying the creativity that used to make the games industry a fun place to work. They sign up such large licences so no other publisher can compete on a level playing field (Fifa the only title allowed to use all player and club names, the American sports tie ups that happen a couple of years back). They have been known to treat their programmers badly, making them work unpaid overtime in order to get a title out in time for the most profitable times of the year. Once upon a time, EA was the standard bearer but now.......

As far as sequel after sequel after sequel is concerned Take Two are as guilty as every other publisher GTAIV, Manhunt 2 Sports franchise suffixed by 2k et al. EA are more succesful at making them work i.e generate revenue.

As far as Rockstar/Take Two, they can produce a sequel that gamers look forward to. With EA, anyone looking forward to Euro 2008 (Fifa 2008 1.5)? This is mostly with the sports arm of EA though but these are the titles that appear on the market more than most. One or two titles from them I am looking forward to though with Spore and Dead Space.

Can't remember much else though. Oh, a console version of Crysis will be nice.

This is the same a-hole that told people to SELL their shares of Take Two before EA came in to buy them out. Of course he now says 'they should sell to EA' ..what else would he say?

That usualy makes me laugh. So who made this EA such a big and evil corp? You did! I mean we all of us. Gamers. It's funny when you visit a website and see lot's of anti EA crap there, though at the same time most popular and oftenly visited titles on the very same web belongs to... EA.

You don't like the company? You don't buy it games. Can't resist? Then shut up.

In regards to my previous post, I am not anti EA? I have many EA Games, I just don't want them having the GTA series upon there grasp, as I think they may ruin the series, and then we'll all be saying what GTA use to be...

@9

exactly! it's not like EA holds us gamers up against a wall at gunpoint and force us to buy their games. the annual sequels to fifa, need for speed et al top the charts because we buy them. if people hate these games so much then why do they sell millions? the only hate for ea is from the ill-educated hardcore gamer. in reality they've done nothing wrong. their success is of our design. and yes, take 2 do exactly the same with their annual 2K sports updates.
