Xbox games library to hit 1,000 this summer

360 will become first next-gen console to reach milestone

Xbox’s quest to become the console of choice for families will be given a huge boost by becoming the first system to offer a library of 1,000 games this summer.

That’s according to Xbox VP for Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Europe Chris Lewis, who this week told MCV that Xbox Live will be a key weapon in tempting mainstream consumers away from PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii in the coming months.

"We’ll have north of 1,000 games on 360 by the summer, across Live and boxed product," VP of Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Europe Chris Lewis told MCV.

"Titles such as our sports games, Scene It! and Guitar Hero – which has become a preferential experience on Xbox 360 – has already proved that, and we have lot more coming in that space this year.

Lewis also reiterated Microsoft’s dedication to the family audience with its Xbox Live service.

“The number of people that have signed up to the Live service so far is testament to the fact that there are a broad spectrum of consumers enjoying the service,” he added.

“That can only grow as we expand the likes of Live Arcade and Live Video Store. We’re listening hard to what casual consumers want as you see us release more and more content that appeals to a broad audience.”

Wasn't this the reason soo many people had PS2's? Because of the sheer number of games available that suited everyone?

I think Microsoft have done very well this gen in the software elements kudos to them and am greatful for the many games available and ones that are on the way at the end of the day being a gamer is all about enjoying the games you want right?

Most are either Arcade games or cross platform titles...Also why blame Microsoft? Blame the developers for making crap titles.

1000 games? The ones I want to play are also on the ps3 and I could get a lot more use of that system, with blu-ray on it as well. There is not alot of exclusive on the 360 or any for that matter that makes me want to buy it. I have a wii and my next purchase will be a ps3. I have no real estate under the tv for an xbox 360. Because to me it is a peice of Crap and a bad investment that you have to buy all the addons that come standard in the wii and ps3. Add it up you end up paying more.

AAAARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

Buck, you are an utter ****. Silence.

And comment 2 - I actually think the overall standard on 360 is pretty high, overall. Certainly compared to Wii, where there's an unsettlingly high number of terrible titles.

Well working in the industry, I can tell you that this is a great achievement for a company that came into the console market late. Yes, some of the games are cross platform and live games, but to myself and my colleagues the 360 is way ahead in gaming terms! the cross platform games seem to run better on 360 as the ports to the PS3 are to be honest, not good enough! Yes, the PS3 is a great machine and as it includes Blu Ray & Wifi built in (remember 360 came out a while before PS3, so Sony had a bit of time to add to their console) and albeit expensive, I can see it winning the console war at the end of the day when we start seeing some of the AAA titles come out (when the programmers can get rid of the shoddy ports and concentrate on learning the code to write proper PS3 games!)

At the moment the only games machine for me and I think alot of people in the industry is the 360 - hands down!

Somehow the PS3 continues to outsell the 360 with a smaller higher-quality library. Anyone who says the 360 is better hasn't played Uncharted.

"Well working in the industry, for Microsoft."

Fix'd!

Anyone who truly works in the industry owns all three consoles and, unless they work for Microsoft or a company on their payroll, prefer the PS3.

It helps when you actually work in the industry, I as an intern at Raven.

PS3 outselling 360? LOL because nearly every gamer has already bought one!

I own both, and the PS3 sits collecting dust. How long has it been out, and we're STILL waiting for AAA games to come out?

1000 games ....most of them are CRAP and are on PC too. It includes xbox games too.

You dont own a PS3. You own a DEFECTIVE LOW POWERED x 360 ( 70% defect rate actually)

UNCHARETD makes anything on x360 look like a Wii game not to even mention KZ2 and others

@Rignite

Is that so? so why is it I prefer the 360? Dont speak for every gamer who owns all the consoles mate :)

I personally think its down to personal preference. People have different views and oppions. A few months ago I wasnt going to buy a PS3 due to a lack of titles that interested me, thats not to say I didnt like the PS3 as a console, I was just waiting for the right titles for me to appear, which they slowly are now appearing.

As for the whole blu-ray debate..meh, I'm still prefering DVDs :P (no HD TV for me, and alot of people I know)

No they are not 'first'. This supposed 1000 includes Xbox 1 games.

PS3 had +1000 games out of the box and Wii now has +1000 too.

MCV...did you get paid to write this drivel?

Hahaha I can't believe all these arguments over the 360 and PS3. They're both great consoles and so far the 360 has an edge on games, though Microsoft really are going to lose that over the course of this year. To say either console is **** is an utter joke. But I guess thats just because I'm not a fanboy :p

I just made a counting game and I end up at 630 games released as of now, which means MS is either goint to publish 400 games in the space of 4 months or counting demos to reach the 1,000 mark.

The AAA games are usually on all consoles so there is no contest there. However when it comes down to shoddiness of the consoles I have to say Xbox360 has its red rings but that has been fixed and its unfortunate MS choose the fading HDDVD format. When it comes to the PS3 I see a multitude of design flaws and also disappointments stemming from the mediocre hardware. First of all Bluray is great but when i can get an xbox 360 and bluray for my computer for the same price as a PS3 thats messed up. The PS3 also is a huge monstrosity where as the 360 is smaller than its older brother. Also the disc changer on PS3 is a huge flaw as if anything gets stuck inside youll end up having to send it in for sure. I do realize that you can break a disc tray but thats not a flaw thats just your stupidity or dumb luck.
