BBFC passed game uncut, despite controversial ‘portrayed’ sexual elements to gameplay

The BBFC passed Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV uncut in the UK this week – but the body’s website has revealed the title contains a multitude of risqué sexual references.

Not only can players pick up prostitutes, but also ‘portray’ masturbation, fellatio and intercourse in the ‘18’-rated title.

The BBFC’s homepage revealed the news yesterday, which was picked up by videogamer.com.

It stated: ‘Sex references also occur during cut scenes, including references to strong sexual behaviour. During gameplay the character can pick up prostitutes... ‘What follows is an un-detailed portrayal of masturbation, fellatio and intercourse. The character can also visit lap dancing clubs and request a private dance. While the game contains sexualised dancing and the portrayal of sex, there is no sexualised nudity.’

According to videogamer.com, the BBFC ratings page for GTA IV has since been taken down by Rockstar’s request – as it contained spoilers.

‘We have taken this down because we have a policy which is that we will not put up the ECI for a work more than 10 days before the work is released.

‘Due to a technical hitch we put up the ECI for GTA IV too soon. We will be putting up the full, unedited ECI on the 19th of April.’
