NPD stats show that PC is driving online market; figure grows eight per cent year-on-year

A report send out by games market monitor The NPD Group
claims that 72 per cent of citizens living in the United States played a video game across 2007, representing an 8 per cent increase from 2006.

According to NPD, 40 per cent of United States residents played an online game in 2007, with that figure expected to rise another two per cent in 2008.

ShackNews reports that, of these online gamers, a stonking 90 per cent used a PC to do so. NPD described the PC as "the driving force in online gaming."

"Despite the buzz in the industry regarding online gaming, it is still relatively small compared to offline gaming," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.

"There is still a large, untapped market for gaming in general and online gaming in particular."
