Classification board down under axes elements of game so it can grant a 15 certificate
Rockstar’s GTAIV may have survived its BBFC classification unscathed in this country, but the upcoming game has been cut prior to its release in Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
No details have been released about what aspects of the game were removed, though the BBFC’s recent report about the title’s content may offer some hints.
Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification currently only allows ratings up to 15, though the body has come under increasing pressure to introduce an 18 certificate to prevent the banning of more adult material.
It’s not the first time the series has run into trouble in the region. GTAIII, Vice City and San Andreas were all edited by the OFLC, with the latter temporarily coming off the shelves following the infamous Hot Coffee scandal.

Australia is PAL too
The problem for Aussie censors is that Australia is a PAL region, just as the UK is. So nothing is stopping gamers importing the game from Blighty if they want the full, uncensored version.
Re: Australia is PAL too
I am Australian (although currently residing in UK) - our government is so paranoid it's embarrasing (not just on games, but also terrorism, immigration etc) where our knee jerk response is usually much more over the top than other countries.
Wasnt multiplayer cut out of an online 360 game (Front Lines ?) - we really need to lighten up a bit. Doesnt play well with our laid back image !
Re: Australia is PAL too
I think there is online in frontlines but I dont know if they made any dedicated servers there.
MOH heros has the online cut in AUS by EA i read
Re: Australia is PAL too
yes you are right - it was MoH I was thinking of not Frontlines.

"Classification board down under axes elements of game so it can grant a 15 certificate"
This is inaccurate. Rockstar Games submitted a version of the game which they had made changes to and the board did not censor that version whatsoever.
