Entertainment chain hails status as market leader in Blu-Ray sales; increased shelf space on the way
HMV has revealed that it will be stepping up its commitment to Blu-Ray significantly as the format continues to go from strength to strength.
After the demise of HD-DVD, the entertainment chain will be increasing Blu-Ray’s in-store presence through out the Summer and Autumn.
“It can only be a positive development that one high definition format has now emerged, and we at HMV UK, Ireland, Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore look forward to putting our full support behind Blu-Ray as a single standard which will help to create an exciting new growth phase for the DVD market,” said CEO of HMV Simon Fox.
“As a broad-based entertainment retailer, HMV also sees great potential in Blu-Ray for developing multi-format offers for customers of all of its main product groups - games and technology, films and music.”
“The entertainment offer is increasingly becoming franchise-based and multi-format. So, at Christmas, for example, our customers were able to buy a Sony PS3 bundle, which included not only the very latest games, but also a Blu-Ray movie, which is playable on the PS3.”
