Eidos has become ‘ruthless’, says CEO

SCi boss Phil Rogers tells MCV how the firm has toughened up after its recent troubles

CEO of Eidos parent SCi Phil Rogers has given his first press interview since the company’s recent restructuring to MCV – and talked of a more “ruthless”, upbeat attitude at the troubled publisher.

Rogers spoke to MCV before speculation surrounding takeover talks pushed the company’s share price up by over 10 per cent on Friday.

"As a company we have been bringing out too many average games which are tying up resources," Rogers told MCV. "In today’s environment of lengthening development cycles and increasing costs, we need to be more ruthless and focus on our quality titles."

SCi’s share price has continued to grow today – up 2.4 per cent to almost 62p at the last count.

Maybe they'll make a better Kayne and Lynch this time around. Maybe with a driving level that doesn't blow.

So the head honchos finally listened to all the employees screaming "these games suck. stop making crap and get your act together". An unfortunate side effect of the powers that be listening to this advice was them also firing all the employees.... shameful.

I would be very impressed if Mr Rogers can get Eidos back on track. I'm curious as to how he intends to focus on better 'quality' titles considering the the tighter budgets, less developmental manpower, and a cut in an experienced QA department. To produce quality products, you at least need quality tools and resources, and pretty soon, Eidos will have none. I anticipate Eidos will have run its course in 18 moths - 2 years.

18 months? 18 days more like. The vultures are circling and ready to swoop for a bargain if the lack of new funding is to be believed...

Maybe they did actually find £30M down the back of the sofa in Jane's old office?

been there, heard that...

Talk is cheap. Will believe it when we see it.

Mediocre organizations like to talk big, but excellence is another matter entirely... and a different culture all together.

Oh Dear

And what about the REAL plan behind this facade of "oh yeah we got tougher and we're gonna be releasing better games". In time we'll all see what it is. At the moment, don't make promises you have no intention of keeping. Canada or Bust!
