UK CHARTS: Another week at No.1 for Gran Turismo

First-party racer takes 39 per cent of PS3 software sales; Sega enjoys three top ten entries

Sony’s Gran Turismo: Prologue has enjoyed its second week at the top of ChartTrack/ELSPA’s All Formats entertainment software chart.

The title was responsible for 39 per cent of all PS3 games sales – but, possibly due to its non-premium price, only provided 28 per cent of the format’s software revenue.

Sega’s Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games continues to impress, moving up one place to number two. It swaps places with Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy: Rainbow Six Vegas 2, which saw a sales drop of 43 per cent.

The Wii version of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 scores a strong second week, holding onto fourth position with sales up 34 per cent.

Sega has the largest number of Top Ten All Formats titles this week with three - Mario & Sonic is joined by Condemned 2 in fifth spot and Viking: Battle for Asgard, which moves up two spaces to seventh in its second week.

Desperation?

I think all this proves is that PS3 owners are so desperate for a killer app, at this juncture of the console's life, they'd buy anything remotely resembling a killer app!

And let's face it, GT5P is a half-finished game (forced to be released by Sony) that will spoil the full game when it comes out, because no one will be interested anymore, as they'd have all moved on by then.

This news proves nothing as far as Sony's strategy or the PS3's future is concerned.

Or maybe it could be seen that ps3 owners are more than happy to spend a nominal £20 on a fantastic game that will outlast many similar titles in the rivals catalog?

I don't buy you claim that no-one will be interested when GT5 finally surfaces. I know plenty of people who bought GT3/GT4 after their concepts/prologues were released.

How quick we are to forget!
