Xbox snaps up former SCEE man

Daniel Maher appointed Xbox Live editor for Europe

Maher joins from SCEE’s international software development team and will now be responsible for the editorial and production of the various European versions of Inside Xbox, the daily news magazine on Xbox Live.

Maher was recently voted by his peers in our 30 under 30 feature, a prestigious list of the top 30 up-and-coming games industry executives. He joined SCEE straight out of university in 2001, where he worked as a content producer on PlayStation.com for four years before moving to SCEE's international software development team.

“Daniel’s background makes him inimitably qualified for the exciting plan of rolling out Inside Xbox across Europe,” said director of Xbox Live Europe Robin Truchy. “He joins at a time when Xbox LIVE is becoming increasingly important as we look to provide excellent editorial and on-demand HD content across Europe.”

Maher added: “The opportunity to play a key part in generating exclusive Xbox Live editorial content and helping to develop a strategy for the roll-out of Inside Xbox across Europe is a thrilling prospect on both a professional and personal level. I am eager to build upon Xbox Live's status as the world's best and most innovative platform for digitally distributed content.”

Why give so much time to a localisation producer moving jobs?

Good to hear Inside Xbox will be getting new blood of such experience. Editorial in this industry is becoming increasingly underappreciated, so it's great the company is taking content so seriously by this appointment.

Sorry, what experience does he have? He oversaw localisation in a department ridiculed within Sony and managed by a buffoon.

Clearly you don't have a clue about anything, my friend. Furthermore, how can you judge anything about this guy without having seen the fruits of his labour? Grow up.

This is excellent news... for Sony customers.

SCEE are regarded as lazy, uncaring and incompetent. Many links on google explain why.

However should anyone be suprised if Sony employ Graduate Students for top jobs? I feel this is move that will hurt MS badly. I wouldn't be suprised if the guy took this job because Sony Worldwide told him to clear off....
