Report: SCi to cost NBC $100m

Vivendi-owned media giant looks like the frontrunner in acquisition race as UK national newspaper puts pricetag on Eidos parent

Sci Entertainment will cost a potential suitor $100m – and NBC Universal is close to securing a deal for just that sort of money.

That’s according to a Financial Times report, which said NBC – which itself its part-owned by Vivendi - is ‘close to finalising’ the deal.

The newspaper adds that Time Warner is also in discussions to increase its stakehold in the company, up from the ten per cent it already owns.

Either deal could be finalised ‘the next few weeks’, according to the article.

If NBC was to be successful with its bid, a percentage of Eidos would become part of the Vivendi family that now encompasses Activision, as well as Vivendi-owned labels such as Sierra and Blizzard.

True ownership of NBCU

NBC Universal is primarily a GE company, not a Vivendi one. Vivendi divested 80% interests in Universal Studios and associated business back in 2004. Vivendi only owns 20% of NBCU. So the real story here is how Universal is getting back into the games business, not Vivendi expanding an empire.
