Freeview PVR accessory not scheduled for a July release, despite retailer’s claims
Sony has said that its upcoming PS3 Freeview tuner PlayTV is not being lined up for a European launch this July, with its actual shelf date remaining TBC.
Amazon yesterday listed the device for launch on July 31st, with a price of just £59.99, though both the date and price have since been removed.
Speaking to Eurogamer, a Sony spokesperson stated: "We have yet to announce a release date and price for PlayTV, and do not comment on rumour or speculation.”
PlayTV was announced at last year’s Leipzig Games Convention, though MCV correctly predicted the announcement months beforehand.
The device will allow users to transform their PS3s into fully functional PVRs (personal video recorders) that can record, pause and rewind live TV.

Amazon PlayTV claims dismissed
this is probably not sony's fail but more of the bbc's and the governments doing because of the license fee, but its a shame that the unit is so big unlike the USB digital tv adaptors you can get.
Re: Amazon PlayTV claims dismissed
What have the government and BBC to done?
As for size, it has 2 tuners in it, not just 1, so that accounts for some of it.
Re: Amazon PlayTV claims dismissed
And the lateness is probably down to the fact DVB-2 has only just been ratified and supported by the Freeview consortium so that HD broadcasts on Freeview can go ahead and I will be damned if PlayTV doesn't support HD.
Re: Amazon PlayTV claims dismissed
Currently playTV cannot record shows in the background whilst you are playing a game, though Sony engineers are "working hard on that feature" and it "may be added after release". See the hands on BBC report:

If they release it without background recording I can't see it selling well at any price - who wants to have to check for upcoming recordings each time before putting a game in the PS3 and having to choose between recording a show or playing a game? PVRs are meant to make life simpler, not more complicated....
