The Xbox 360 has a massive install base in the USA. But the video console market is bigger than that. The Xbox 360 was the no1 next-gen console whilst it was the only one on the market, but even in the UK the PlayStation 3 is outselling it despite being double the price!

Microsoft have made the same mistake they made with the original Xbox, which is to drop the price too fast, it gives the impression of a console that doesnt hold its value. Along with prominent reports of unreliability. The 360 is a hit with the hardcore, and low incomes only.

The Playstation is associated with the GTA brand. People love the franchise, and want a PS3 to play it on. The Blu-ray is the factor in distinguishing the console as truly next-gen. So, Microsoft will will the USA for GTA sales, but PlayStation will win the world. Considering that Microsoft have had exclusive 360 branded adverts, and exclusive DLC this would be a shameful showing.

Of course GTA will drive PS3 hardware sales over 360. Any hardcore gamer who wanted a 360 will already have one for Halo, Call of Duty etc...

The fact that the PS3 has no real killer applications is a reason why this will drive sales.

Im not too sure what format the game will sell better on. Me and a couple of my friends who own both systems have decided to get it on the 360 purely for the online exp.

I've had my PS3 since January and I still havent bought a single game for it...well I downloaded Tekken:DR, but I guess that dont count.

I just wish MS would allow us to install the game on our HD's like the PS3 owners can. I dont care if i have to wait "5 mins" to install, if it makes the overall experience a smoother one and puts less strain on my 360's DVD drive. I've only got the 20gb HD, and its not even half full. I pity the Elite owners, all that storage space . . . . For what? Fair play to the core owners, but at least give us the option if we have a HD.

Its going to be close run thing. The GTA bundle for the PS3 is still a lot more (in the UK anyway) than the equivalent bundle fo rthe 360.

Yes the PS3 is a technically superior console, but the 360 does have far better games out for it (I own a PS3) With GTA, they talked about exclusive online content for the 360. That does not mean they will not release PS3 exclusive content for GTA at some point in the future, does it? . This could be the game that finally starts to shift PS3...only time will tell .

NOTE: Am not a fanboy, appreciate both consoles for what they offer....I just didnt want to stick anymore money in Mr Gates' pocket ;-)

You're right of course. Mr Gates did hand the baton down. I just have a very good memory (NT4 services packs etc), and have to stick to my principles....having said that if us PS3 owners dont get any more AAA games, then I may have to swallow my pride and get a 360 lol

1) Exclusive downloadable content.
2) Huge Microsoft advertising campaign.
3) Much cheaper package and just as good as a PS3.
4) Much better existing cataogue of games.

'stock availability' is a great excuse for not selling well. Over the Christmas 2007/January/February 2008 the Xbox 360 sold much less than the PlayStation 3 in the UK. Microsoft's explanation was that they had not enough stock, that it was a 'stock availability' issue. However HMV & Gem distributors both said that they actually had a surplus!

So Bruceongames, are you basically suggesting that if the PS3 GTA IV outsells the 360 it is just because of 'stock availability?!' Ha ha ha!

Because insecure people like Ryu and PS3Rules need reassurances. Those of us not blinded by loyalty and have both systems, aren't so insecure.

If people still believe that a machine with a restrictive memory architecture and a slow storage medium, counts as technically superior... you can see where the insecurity comes from.

The fact is the PS3 doesn't just "have" a HD as standard, it "demands" one, as without it, the system would be crippled. And that's something the 360 isn't... take the HD off and everything still works, all the games still play, what's inferior about that?

Tell it like it is LeeC., 3.5g mandatory install, no DLC, 680p, and your free network belly's up on first contact. How long are you guys going to keep lying to yourselves and realize Sony gimped your machine to push blu-ray. Don't flame MS, you should be flaming Sony. Think about this my one year card for Live Gold includes 1 free month so it's actually 13 months for $50 bucks. That works out to $3.85 a month. For the type of reliability I get and the content, it's more than worth it. And I stopped playing movies on my game machines back in my PS2 days because it shortens the life of the laser and the drive. So why would I pay a premium for a feature I'll never use? And you put up with all of this because it has the Sony label on it? SUCKERS! I love my 360, but if I got the same lame ass excuses time and time again I would rip MS a new one. Man up Sony boys don't take **** like this lying down or it only sends them the signal that it's OK to do it. Do you really think they didn't test this first?
