Label’s boss says it is the ‘only real brand in video games’

EA Sports president Peter Moore has likened the marketing strength of the label to that of Hollywood movies – calling it “the only real brand in video games”.

In an interview with GameDaily, Moore said that EA Sports division has the “opportunity to touch more people than hardcore sports gamers” and that “you don’t need to be a gamer to know what EA Sports is.”

GameDaily asked: What are some of the correlations between sports and marketing?

Moore replied: “We're a sports video game brand right now. We see ourselves evolving very quickly into a true sports brand – with, obviously, a huge competency in video games.

“But I think we can touch more people than just those who are relatively hardcore sports gamers.

I mean, the EA Sports brand is a powerful brand on its own. If I tell somebody who I work for, and I say EA Sports – you don't have to be a gamer to know who that is.

“I'd like to think, from a marketing view, it's probably the only real brand in video games. And I don't mean that as any disrespect to publishing brands, but it's somewhat reminiscent of Hollywood. I don't go to see a Warner Bros. picture, or a Universal picture – I go to see the picture.

“And as publishers, often times our products are bigger as brands than the publisher itself. You don't buy an Activision or an EA game, you will buy The Sims, or Call of Duty – that's what you're buying.”

If I was in a sports shop, and had a choice of sports shirts(for example)would I consider buying either a Nike, Adidas, or EA Sports branded one?

EA Sports wouldnt even feature on the radar. I think Peter has to stop blowing his own trumpet as EA Sports, as a brand is not as big as his ego.

Another day, another arrogant comment from an EA high flier. The way i see it real gamers buy EA games in spite of the brand not because of it.

Its the same old spiel we've all heard before from Peter. All he's done is swap the words 'Microsoft Xbox 360' for 'EA Sports'

So let me get this strait, this freddy kruger looking idiot creates half assed sports games because there is no other competition allowed and he thinks he's the s&*&? EA has ruined everything sports gaming and competition is about. I hate them with a passion and I will go to the bank withdraw $10,000 in 1 dollar bills and go make it rain in the strip club the day they lose the NFL license. I HATE THEM!!!!!

Will we be seeing new game videos or news soon? Will it be out this year? I am
signed in for your newsletter but we have not seen new news. I want you guys to
know that you have a huge fan base here in the Silicon Valley and we can't wait
for the game. Please throw us a bone so we can chew on the latest screens shots,
video, news etc.. come on guys it time to give up something .We are so fire up on
the game and what you guys have been doing with the natural motion engine. This
is what we are calling it ( "FOOTBALL THAT CAN'T BE DENIED" ) Because it's so
real you can feel it ! I really feel you guys are the wave of the future. What
you guys bring to the table is a whole new experience in playing football games.
A true feel of football is going on here and like I said before we are all
fired up for it ! I don't like to knock down another game Company but enough is
enough , EA sports has been feeding us like rats the last few years on Next Gen
football giving us little upgrades at a
time and making big money off the true football gamers. ( same game each year with minor upgrades) it's
just not right . From what I have seen and heard you guys innovate and give your
best efforts in all developments & projects. Please remember this from a sports
gamer eyes of 16 years of experience. We don't really care about the NFL rights
that EA has we just want the best game play experience to date. Please send this
to all that are involved over there so they know how we feel about their on
going developments and efforts. There are so many improvements that can be made
each year that there is no need to hold back like EA has done over the years (
they take and give back options and upgrades ) you guys could say your game is
football with passion.
