Title shifts almost a million units in first week; takes over £39 million at retail
Rockstar’s GTA IV has smashed all UK first-week sales records, according to official data obtained by MCV from industry monitor ChartTrack.
The game sold 926,000 units in the five-day period between its release (Tuesday, April 29th) and Saturday, May 3rd.
According to ChartTrack/ELSPA data, the title took a total of £39.9 million at UK retail – made up of Xbox 360 & PS3 software sales combined.
Both sales and revenue beat the previous record, set by GTA: San Andreas on PS2, which sold 677,000 units (£24.2m) in its first 'week' – which consisted of two days (29th-30th November, 2004).
Last week, MCV broke the news that the game had also beaten UK day-one sales records – out-performing the likes of GTA: San Andreas and Halo 3.

why?
and i still don't understand why... Ok ok - maybe I am the only one who doesn't like the GTAs ... *goes back to Time Crisis 4 and SuperStardust HD*
Re: why?
You're definitely the only one.
Re: why?
It'd be ok if my PS3 copy still worked properly. It gave up after 4 days and despite deleting everything and turning stuff off, it refused to work. Only by using a "pre-delete" profile did the game work, but I can't use the game saves.
My mate has got the exact same problem was wasn't as far into the game.
To be honest I've lost motivation to play it now cos I'm worried I'll put in all the effort and it'll break again. I've raised a support ticket but no word from Rockstar on any fixes neither.
Re: why?
In response to post 3...
Try disabling your internet connection to your PS3 when plaing GTA IV. Many people are reporting that this fixes problems with crashing and failures to load the game. It seems that even during the single player campaign GTA IV attempts to contact servers and this appears to be causing most of the problems people are experiencing.
