Record-breaking Rockstar title pushes Wii Fit down one place
The biggest All Formats release ever, Grand Theft Auto IV, has hit the top spot in the UK software chart – outselling last week’s No.1 Wii Fit by nine-to-one.
According to ELSPA/ChartTrack statistics, the Rockstar title almost broke the one million unit barrier in the week (Sunday, April 28th to Saturday, May 3rd) – despite GTA only being released on the Tuesday (April 29th).
The title recorded an estimated total market figure of 926,000 sales (£39.9m) over five days.
61.2 per cent of the value of all software sold this week was generated by GTA IV, which itself is bigger than the total software market figure of every other week so far this year (apart from week one).
After releasing an estimated day one figure of 609,000 for GTA IV, ChartTrack has now revealed that the final estimated total market figure (based on full EpoS data from all retailers) actually came to 631,000 units in the first 24 hours.
In under a week GTA IV has sold more units than every title in 2007, except FIFA 08, Brain Training and Call of Duty 4.
Sales of last week’s number one Wii Fit were down 58 per cent, seeing the title drop from first to second spot.
Sega’s Mario & Sonic holds in third position, whilst Nintendo’s Wii Play shoots back into ChartTrack's All Formats Top Ten, up from 15th to fourth position.
The wheels have come off ‘Mario Kart’ as it drops from second place to fifth, with a 61 per cent drop-off in software sales.
Sega are the only company to release a new All Formats Top 40 game, with super hero film tie-in Iron Man hitting number 11.
The full ChartTrack All Formats top ten reads:
1) GTA IV – Rockstar
2) Wii Fit – Nintendo
3) Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games – Sega

5) Mario Kart Wii – Nintendo
6) Gran Turismo 5: Prologue – Sony
